Two men suspected to be customers of Globus Bank located at 6, Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria, Lagos, Olarewaju Ganiyu Olawale, 46, and Ibrahim Lawal, 35, have been arrested by the Police at Zone 2 Command, Lagos and charged before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court for alleged wilful damage of the bank’s entrance door glass valued at N5m, rail glasses valued at N7m, lift button pad valued at N2m and other properties all valued N24m.
They were accused of heating the listed items severally with pieces of wood for unjustifiable reasons.
The police also accused the defendants of attempting to set fire to Globus Bank by burning tyres and wood on the premises of the bank.
After an investigation by ASP Agba Fidelis and team, the defendants were charged before the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, wilful damage of property and attempted arson.

Police prosecuting Counsel, ASP Ibrahim Haruna informed the court in the charge marked N/15/2024 that the defendants committed the offence on 13 April 2024 at Globus Bank located at 6, Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Haruna told the Court that the defendants took the law into their own hands and damaged the complainant’s properties valued at N24m for unjustifiable reasons which led to their arrest.
He said the offences the defendants committed were punishable under sections 412, 351(1)(b) and 342(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding Magistrate granted them N2m bail each with two sureties each in like sum.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till 5 June 2024 for mention and ordered that the defendants be detained at the Ikoyi correctional facility till they perfected the bail conditions.
